The online Computer Support Technician program will provide students with both the theory and practical experience necessary to design, implement, manage, and maintain computers and network installations in organizations of all sizes. Delivered in our flexible and convenient virtual classroom, the program covers a wide range of topics from hardware installation, configuration, and networking to Windows operating systems, MS Office support, and help desk techniques.
Students will study the theory of computer systems hardware and software components and develop practical skills through hands-on lab training. In addition, they’ll learn about help desk and troubleshooting operations.
The Computer Support Technician program helps students prepare for industry-standard certification examinations, including Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA) A+ and Net+. This program is available with or without an internship.

The purpose of this course is to optimize learning through equipping students with effective study techniques. This course also provides an introduction to personality styles that will be encountered in the workplace and allows students to practise appropriate and productive interaction between the various styles. This course is a broad-based introduction to using a personal computer. It teaches the fundamentals of an operating system and the most popular application software including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. You will also learn about the Internet, Web browsers, electronic mail and antivirus software. The course is based on the Windows 7 operating system, Microsoft office 2013 and a variety of popular software programs for the Internet-related and security-related applications
This course is the first of two courses that cover the general installation, maintenance and management of computer hardware and software resources. This first course focuses on the hardware resources that make up a computer system course will align to the CompTIA A+ learning objectives. Students will learn about the operation of microcomputer systems, the various hardware components that makeup a computer system and how to troubleshoot common hardware problems.
This course is the second of two consecutive courses that align to the CompTIA A+ certification requirements. This course focuses on the software installation, configuration and troubleshooting as well as system security. Students will gain an understanding of the various network models, standards and protocols. Students will install configure and troubleshoot operating system software as well as application software packages. Finally, the course will explore security issues involving software installations.
The Network+ course will provide students with an introduction to the theory of networks. Students will learn basic networking concepts relating to the types of networks, general networking components, specialized hardware and software associated with networks, and how to set up and configure networks. Students will also learn about network security, wireless networks, as well as Voice over IP network capabilities.
IT professionals are constantly working with a variety of diagrams from basic flowcharts to floor plans and Network diagrams. This Introduction to Microsoft Visio course is designed for students who are new to Visio and who will be using Microsoft Visio to create basic workflows and perform end-to-end flowcharting and diagrams. Students will learn about the tools and features of Visio and apply the skills to create a variety of diagrams on a scale from the basic organizational charts and flowcharts to the more complex workflow diagrams and network diagrams.
This is the first course covering Windows 10. In addition, skills learned in this course will give students a foundation to build on in Windows Server courses. Topics include installing Windows 10, performing post-installation configuration, implementing Windows in an enterprise environment, configuring networking, storage, data access, implementing applications, configuring updates, monitoring and remote management, configuringsystem recovery, authorization and authentication.
This course will provide the students with skills necessary to deploy, configure and support Windows apps, resources and devices. Students will learn how to support the Windows Store and Cloud Apps, Mobility options and devices using Microsoft Intune. The course will explore the configuration of settings to support data storage and security, remote connections, resources, desktop apps, updates and mobility options with Azure RemoteApp. Finally, students will be able to configure system recovery and file recovery settings and manage system updates.
This course is designed to equip students with interpersonal skills identified by employers as essential for success in the professional world. Using a variety of instructional methods including case studies, group exercises, and discussion, students learn and practice key communication skills.
In addition to learning career-oriented skills, students learn how to get a job in their chosen profession. Our Employment Services department will assist the graduate in resume writing, as well as preparing for job interviews. Our staff is sensitive to current job market trends and the needs of employers in each local market. Our graduates receive guidance and training to use career tools that help job seekers build a better resume and cover letter, manage an online portfolio, hone interviewing skills, and develop a personal brand online. Students will have the use of a computer lab which has unlimited Internet access, as well as job search resources. Facilitators will also be made available to advise on job finding resources, interview skills and techniques and to carry out mock interviews. This course also looks at the planning, preparation, execution, and follow-up stages of an interview: How people find jobs; Employer expectations; Presenting an enthusiastic attitude; Focusing on the right job and the hidden job market; Transferrable skills; Thank you letters; Effective telemarketing; Handling objections, self-confidence, and self-esteem; Individual counselling and coaching.
