Learn Efficient Payroll and Accounting Management

CDI College's Financial Management - LEA.AC program offers practical training in key areas such as computerized accounting, financial analysis, and information systems management.

 

It covers personal financial planning, taxation, marketing, payroll, and business software, as well as legal and ethical issues in financial management. Students also gain real-world experience through two end-of-studies projects or a practicum placement.

Spell check. Basics of a presentation software, creating Microsoft PowerPoint™ documents, using artwork gallery images, inserting sound effects. Page layout concepts. Introduction to browsers and the Internet. Setting up an email account using a public provider. Reading, organizing and sending messages.

Introduction to Business Organization and Business Law [410-0ED-ID]

Company functions. Main management activities (planning, organization, management and control). The business environment (internal and external environment, mutual influences). Problem management and the decision-making process. The legal mechanisms of the company (sole proprietorship, partnership, corporation, cooperative). Learn how to form a company. Economy and Marketing Fundamentals [410-ECM-ID]

Introduction to Taxation [410-1FS-ID]

Accounting I [410-CP1-ID]

Basic concepts in financial accounting. Accounting cycle. Chart of accounts. Journal entries relating to the business operations of a sole proprietor. Recordkeeping in the general journal and appropriate auxiliary journals. Posting to the general ledger and auxiliary ledgers. Calculation and registration of provincial and federal sales taxes. Preparation of a trial balance. Adjusting entries. Preparation of a worksheet. Closing and reversing entries. Preparation of financial statements for a commercial enterprise in proper form.

Personal Financial Planning [410-PFP-ID]

Investment management: risk/return relationship, diversification, risk aversion, investment horizon, types of investments, investment tools. Understanding the Registered Retirement Savings Plan, including tax considerations, self-directed RRSP, spousal RRSP, Home Buyer’s Plan. Risk management types, life insurance, and determining insurance needs.

Processing accounting transactions relating to liabilities (operating lease, lease acquisition, notes payable, bonds payable, etc.). Share capital transactions. Preparation of the cash flow statement. Preparation of the financial statements for a corporation.

Introduction to Management Accounting [410-CAG-ID]

Inventory management. Evaluation of inventory (FIFO, LIFO, etc.). Cost classification (fixed, variable, direct costs, indirect costs, etc.). The breakdown of costs (allocation of overhead). Preparation of accounting entries and the manufacturing costs statement using a General Accounting system. Posting of manufacturing cost activities into a cost accounting system. Payroll Compliance Legislation [CPA1]

Description of payroll objectives and its stakeholders. Identification of the employer/employee relationship. Application of federal and provincial pay legislation, including the Canada Pension Plan, the Employment Insurance Act, the Income Tax Act, the Employment Standards Legislation, the Workmen's Compensation Laws and specific legislation for the Quebec region. Disclosure of payroll compliance requirements to different stakeholders.

Payroll Fundamentals 1 [CPA2]

Communication of all aspects of an organization's payments, as well as accounting and year-end requirements, to various stakeholders (internal, external, and governmental).

  • A person who has received instruction considered sufficient by the college and meets any of the following conditions may be admitted to a program of studies leading to an Attestation of College Studies:

- the person has interrupted his or her full-time studies or pursued full-time postsecondary studies for at least 2 consecutive terms or 1 school year;

- the person is covered by an agreement entered into between the college and an employer or by a government program of studies;

- the person has interrupted his or her full-time studies for one term and pursued full-time postsecondary studies for one term; or

- the person holds a Secondary School Vocational Diploma.
