English Language Proficiency Requirements for applicants educated within Canada

Students must meet English language proficiency at an appropriate level to be accepted into the provincial Practical Nursing program.

Provide evidence of the following:

Three years of full-time secondary or post-secondary education at an accredited institution where English is the language of instruction.

English Language Proficiency Requirements for Internationally Educated Applicants to the PN Program

Determining English Proficiency for Internationally Educated Applicants to the PN Program must meet at least one of the following:

  1. Applicants who are speakers of English as a first language from one of the countries named in the List of Countries with English as an Official Language:

Transcript as proof of three years of full-time secondary or post-secondary education at an accredited institution where English is the language of instruction.

2. Applicants who were educated in an English language environment in the Philippines must provide the following:

  1. Transcript as proof of three years of full-time secondary or post-secondary education at an accredited institution where English is the language of instruction.

  2. ICES (or equivalent—see below) report indicating English as the language of instruction.

  3. The PN Coordinator will ask additional questions during the admissions interview and use a rubric to determine the following skills: speaking, writing, listening and reading.

Notes:
• English as a Second Language/Additional Language courses do not qualify for consideration in the three-year calculation.
• Online courses do not qualify when considering English Language Proficiency.
• ALL international assessment results such as ICES have to be reviewed and approved by the PN Coordinator.

3. All applicants who do not belong to the above categories: Provide one of the following standard language proficiency test scores with valid (not expired) results:
