The nursing field is one that is constantly changing, and nowhere is that more evident than in the uniforms that nurses wear. From the traditional white linen outfits of yesteryear to the muted green scrubs synonymous with modern healthcare, nurses' uniforms have been as versatile as the profession itself. Now, the Chronicle Herald reports that the Nova Scotia Nurses Union has decided to change the outfit yet again.
According to the news provider, union members have voted to adopt a distinctly colored uniform that will help distinguish nurses from other professionals in a medical setting. The new outfit, which will consist of a pair of black pants or skirt and a white top, was brought about in the union's latest contract renegotiations and was voted for by 70 per cent of union members.
The motion is expected to make it easier for patients to identify nursing staff at hospitals in Nova Scotia, a move that will help prevent people from divulging information to individuals they mistakenly believed to be nurses.
Uniforms are just one of the changes that healthcare professionals must adapt to in their careers. Others changes will likely require a strong grounding in the basics of nursing.
