Here2Talk
Even in a great educational program, going to school can sometimes be a stressful experience. Add to that the pressures of life, and it can become overwhelming. These factors can lead to stress, anxiety, and depression, especially during the short, grey days of British Columbia’s winter.
At CDI College we value you, and we want you to be aware of all the resources that are available to you. One such resource is Here2Talk, a new free mental health initiative from the BC government specifically for BC post-secondary students.
What Is It?
Here2Talk is a free and confidential service that provides you access to single session mental health support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and throughout British Columbia. This service allows you to speak with mental health professionals and counsellors experienced with the issues you may be facing.
You will be free to discuss whatever issues you need to talk about, including school. No one should feel limited when it comes to mental health. Whether you are feeling isolated, face uncertainty or anxiety, or you have tension with family and friends, you will have the support you need.
Here2Talk provides the tools needed to cope with the problems you may be facing. They can provide confidential emotional support, help you build better communication and time management skills, and create a more healthy balance between your academic goals and personal life. Additionally, they will be able to provide you with referrals if you need to access specialized options, or ongoing counselling.
How Can I Access It?
Here2Talk is open to all full-time and part-time, domestic and international students in British Columbia. This also includes in-bound international students, and students enrolled in study-abroad programs.
You can access the service in a few ways:
- Through the Here2Talk app available through Google Play or the Apple App Store
- By phone in Canada at 1.877.857.3397 or outside of Canada the line can be reached by dialing +1.604.642.5212 directly or calling collect
- You can also visit the website at www.here2talk.ca
Here2Talk Here to Help
If you are already accessing other mental help services, Here2Talk is still available to you. It’s not meant as a replacement but as a supplement. It’s simply one more resource that is available to provide help should you need it.
Your mental health is important. It can affect your quality of life, impact your studies, and even take a physical toll. Please be aware that Here2Talk is there whenever you need someone to speak to—it’s free and can be accessed 24/7.
